Oak Ford Golf Club

Oak Ford Golf Club in Sarasota off Fruitville east of 75- is the community for people that hate cookie cutter developments.  There is NO golf here.  This is a neighborhood full of indivuality, and custom often times unique homes on very large lots.  Some are actually mini ranches.  Built around what was once a golf club- now reverted back to nature- Oak Ford is a quiet beautiful place.  Homes are unique, some built by well known builders with the luxury esthetic, and some more Florida Farm themed.  There’s even one that looks like an adobe home in New Mexico.  You will find homes with guest houses, homes with big garages, homes that look like something in New England and homes that look like they were built for someone that loved their hotel in Mexico.  Not kidding.  This place is also surrounded by beautiful ponds and lakes.  The homes are on city sewer and well water, so some adjustment is required if this is something you are not prepared for.  There are professionals for that and I can recommend someone.  There is an HOA and there are rules, but not a lot.  There is also an RV lot.  Space is limited, but the price is right, if you have an RV or boat on a trailer that you need to park somewhere. Lakewood Ranch has been expanding and is nearly reaching this community hidden deep in the woods off Fruitville Road about 11 miles east of the Interstate, so you can expect more creature comforts will be close by.  But just west of the neighborhood you will find a few places worth noting like Rogers Market, Stottlemyers, Tractor Supply, Coopers Hawk, Irmas Tacos and Twin Peaks…well most are worth noting.  LOL.  I absolutely love this community.  You will see deer, wild turkeys, horses, cows and many homes set up for multi generational living. You get a sense of calm the minute you drive into it, and I am happy that I have friends there to visit.
